Christmas With Dollar Genaral

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I was recently asked by the folks at  the Dollar General Gift Center if I would be willing to use their products to wrap my Holiday packages, however, I would only be allowed to spend $10. I shop at Dollar General often, and I love challenges, so naturally I accepted.

There are so many gift wrapping options at Dollar General that I was actually a bit over whelmed. For just under $10 I was able to purchase more than I needed.

  • 35 ft roll of sparking red wrapping paper
  • 2 rolls of gold ribbon
  • 9 ft blue and silver beaded garland
  • 9 ft decorative snowflake garland
  • 1 package mini Christmas tree ornaments
  • Tape (not pictured)

When it comes to gift wrapping I usually use a very simple approach, (wrap it and slap a generic bow on top) however, this year I wanted the gifts to be special. I had fun coming up with a new way to decorate each gift. I also have lots of materials left over to decorate the rest of the gifts that I will be purchasing this weekend. (I know, I'm a major procrastinator.) I think the best part about shopping at Dollar General is that I never have to wait in long lines at the cash register. If you would like to keep up to date about what is happening at Dollar General be sure to follow them on Facebook.

Do you shop at Dollar General for Christmas Supplies? What are your favorite items to buy there?

Chai-Spiced Whoopie Pies Recipe

I'm always looking for new recipes to add to my collection and share with my readers.
This recipe was sent in to me my a wonderful reader, (thanks Elizabeth) and it is definitely worth sharing.

Chai-Spiced Woopie Pies Recipe

What you'll need:
  • 2 & 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 Tbs unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 Tbs non-hydrogenated shortening
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tbs, Lifeway Lowfat Plain Kefir, divided
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, spices and salt.

In your stand mixer (or with an electric hand-held mixer) beat together the butter, shortening and sugars until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs and ½ cup of kefir and beat until combined.

In a small measuring cup, mix together the 2 Tbs kefir, baking soda and vinegar. Add the kefir mixture, along with the flour mixture, to the butter mixture and beat on low until just combined. Add the vanilla and beat on medium for about 2 minutes.

Drop 2 tablespoon-sized scoops of batter onto prepared baking sheets. Bake for 10 minutes, then cool on the pan for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely. Sandwich together with the filling of your choice. Vanilla or coffee buttercream make great filling options.

Happy Baking!!

The Secret to Cleaning Your Fireplace Glass

I received this amazing tip from my sweet neighbor and I just had to share it with you.

The only thing you need to clean the glass in your fireplace is a paper towel and wood ashes from your fire place.
Dip the wet towel in the ashes and use it to clean the glass.
 That's it!!

Sound too good to be true?
Well here is the proof.

Here is what my fireplace glass looked like before I cleaned it.

And here is what it looks like now.

It's so clean you can see my reflection in it!!!
I didn't even have to scrub that hard and it took me less than a minute to clean.
